You can use many different avenues when you need help finding a banking job. One way to receive assistance finding work at a financial institution is to network with people who work at a bank. You can set up a time to meet with the banking employee to discuss various aspects about the job you are interested in obtaining. You can also do your own research online and offline to find a career working at a bank and apply online and in person. While you are attending college, you can also use the career center to help you locate and apply for banking jobs in your area, plus receive guidance from an employment counselor. You can also keep an active look out for job openings at banks by checking the job board at the employment center at your college. By utilizing a variety of avenues, you will be that much closer to finding and obtaining a job at a bank.

Network with Friends

  1. Ask family and friends if they know anyone who works at a bank. Tell the bank employee you are interested in speaking with him about his job to find out what you need to do to qualify to work at a bank.
  2. Set up a time to speak with him over the phone or in person. Ask the bank employee any questions you have about being able to find a job at the bank. Ask the bank employee questions about the job they have and what the position entails. Also, ask about the training process, the work atmosphere and the benefits about the position.
  3. Check to see if the bank the bank employee works at is hiring. Call the bank branch or check online.

Apply for Banking Jobs

  1. Join online employment websites that list banking jobs in your area. Sign up for job notifications. This service will send you an email whenever a position matches the banking job description you are interested in applying for.
  2. Check for job openings a few times a week. You can bookmark a few reputable employment sites and refer to these websites or you can go directly to the website of the bank you are interested in applying.
  3. Scan the newspaper for job openings at banks in your area. Often banks will list employment opportunities in the classified sections of the newspaper.

  1. Make an appointment with an employment counselor at the career center at your college. Ask the employment counselor if they know of any banks that are hiring in your area.
  2. See if the career center has any preparation tests to help you with customer service skills, math skills and typing skills.
  3. Check the listings on the bulletin board. You will be surprised to learn that many of the jobs posted on these boards are specifically geared towards college students. Many companies are only interested in hiring college students to limit the pool of candidates.

  • Even when the bank you are interested in working for is not hiring, fill out an employment application. Many banks look through job applications they have on file before making the job available to the public.
