Get Informed Before Buying a RV Motorhome

Are you considering purchasing a Recreational Vehicle? In this article we will discuss several ways to get well-informed before making your decision on which motorhome to buy. Some of the simpler ways include reading past and current issues of RV magazines, attending RV shows, consulting industry buyers’ guides, visiting local RV dealers, and talking to a few experienced motorhome owners.

Steps

  1. Read past and current issues of RV magazines. RV magazines are a good source of camping information, maintenance tips, and can introduce you to the wide range of amenities available in an RV.
  2. Attend an RV Show. This is a great place to meet current owners as well as to collect all the sales flyers and information sheets on models which interest you.
  3. Consult Consumer Reports buying guide for the best over all values. Use all the information collected to narrow down your choices to two or three models and concentrate your research on those.
  4. Talk to current owners of your "final three" choices. Compare cost/benefits ratios for each model you are considering.
  5. Stick with what you know. It's best to remain away from motor home brands that are not well known and recognized in the industry. You may come across some great deals on relatively unknown motorhomes, but it's usually best to pass those up, particularly if you are not very experienced yet as an RV purchaser.
  6. Factor the manufacturer's track record(s) into your decision making. Newer entries into the RV market may not have been around long enough for consumers to identify longer term problems with their product.
