Get Rid of Staticy Hair from Cold Temperatures in the Winter
It's a challenge to keep your hair from being "shocking" during the cold-weather months. An item you may already have at home could help.
Steps
- Rub an unscented, dye-free dryer sheet on your head.
- If you have to wear a hat, avoid synthetics.
- If you need to get rid of static temporarily, spritz some water on your hair. But overall, water can make your hair dryer, so when your hair dries, it will go right back to static.
- Static happens when moisture in the air is too low. (The lower the temperature, the less moisture the air can hold.) If your hair is static mostly at home or work, consider getting a humidifier.
- Wash your hair LESS (always use conditioner!)
Tips
- Don't wash your hair as much. The shampoo strips your hair of natural oils.
- You can use Static Guard, too -- just spray on your brush. Use it lightly on the top of your hair, so it doesn't look greasy, and then use a little more underneath.
- Spread a dab of hand lotion on your palms and run them over your hair, this replaces some moisture in your hair.
- If you can't control your static-y hair, consider blowing up some balloons and having a little fun, instead.
