Get Rid of Unpleasant Smells

Removing unpleasant smells from such rooms as the bathroom, kitchen, laundry etc. doesn't require commercially purchased air fresheners. There are a lot of ready-made solutions at home.

Steps

Match Method

  1. Get a small cup of water.
  2. Light a match in the smelly room.
  3. Keep the match lit for about 7-10 seconds.
  4. Submerge the match in the water. The smell will be completely gone.

Citrus Blend Method

  1. For unpleasant kitchen odors, cook citrus peel: simmer orange, lemon or lime peels on the stove top in a little water, or turn the oven on to its lowest setting.
  2. Leave the door open just a little bit, and put the citrus peels on the oven racks. Citrus seems to get rid of odors instead of just covering them.

Spice Blend Method

  1. Try allspice, cinnamon, or cloves in a little water.
  2. Put all of the spices and water into a saucepan over low heat and allow to simmer.
  3. Keep an eye on it and add more water as it simmers to avoid it burning off. This will cover most odors.

Vanilla Pod Method

  1. Place a vanilla pod in an ovenproof dish and place it in the oven on the lowest setting.

Candle Method for Fish

  1. Get rid of the smell of cooking fish by lighting a candle and leaving it in the kitchen.

Tips

  • This is only recommended for small rooms like bathrooms. Otherwise the match will have to be lit longer.
  • If you feel that you can't handle using matches or you can't take the match smell, then just use an air freshener.
  • Be sure not to drop the match on the floor for matches are very flammable and can cause fires. Do NOT let the elderly near matches. They have shaky hands that are more prone to dropping matches and causing fires.
  • Pour an antibacterial mouthwash down into a toilet bowl and shut the lid for a few seconds, the smell should be gone.

Warnings

  • If simmering water, do not let the pot boil dry.
  • Do not let small children near an oven that is on; do not leave children unattended near an oven.
  • Be careful with matches.
  • Do not forget the oven is on; do not leave the house with the oven on.
