- Go for layers. Go to a salon. Doing it yourself is a bad idea. Getting it done professionally is better than doing it yourself because the stylist can actually see the back of your head.
- Make it fun! Dye your hair a crazy color (with parent's permission if needed) or add highlights (crazier colors, the better) If you have black hair or dark hair, dye it a natural hair color like blonde and red (like in anime i.e. Sailor Moon and Lucky Star)
- Copy your favorite anime character. Maybe even show a picture of your character to the person's who's going to cut your hair if you're getting it done professionally. If you have long hair consider getting the V cut. (short in the front to long from the back)
- Get bangs. If you are a girl then you should consider getting bangs since most anime or Manga female characters have bangs. Usually straight bangs. You can also get straight bangs and sweep them to the side.
- Anime is all about fun and going for what you like. So don't let any teasing and taunts hold you back from what you want.
- If you're not allowed to color your hair, get colorful extensions. They come in every color imaginable. And if you can't find the color extension, but you have the dye, get a light colored one like blonde, and use the dye to color the extensions! Just be creative!

- Take good care of your hair, especially if you dye it or get highlights!
- Remember, not EVERY hairstyle will look good with your style, so before you choose to look like Inuyasha, make sure your wardrobe isn't too "Gangster" for the look.
- Try to remember that the trick to most anime hairstyles is in the styling itself. You can't cut your hair to be like exactly like L's (if that's what you were going for), it has to be styled.
- Be careful when choosing a color that's unnatural like blue or pink. Check to see if you really want that color first before dying your hair.
- In human society, some really bizarre anime hairstyle will really make you look out of place. Try to find a hairstyle that will suit you and doesn't look 'too weird'.
- Remember, you can just buy the actual cosplay if you are not comfortable with doing this. It's worth the investment if you plan on being this character a lot.

- Dye is toxic! Be careful if you're dyeing your hair yourself or with a friend or parent.
- Don't actually get the exact same hairstyle as Jessie from Team Rocket. You'll never have a social interaction with anyone again if you have that hair.
- Remember, if you want a particular anime hairstyle and it includes stuff that needs to be done first for example; straightening/curling,dying your hair etc...You have to think is it good for your hair? Will it damage it? Hair health is also an important aspect. Also Straightening/curling your hair can cause it to burn and go frizzy
