Grow and Keep Emo Hair

If you're emo, you'll need the image - and having bad or extremely short hair isn't exactly what you'll need. This article will go through everything you need to know about emo hair; maintaining it, styling it and what you should do while growing it out.

Steps

  1. If your hair is really short and you want to grow emo style hair, then simply don't get it cut short again from now on. The first 2 months are going to be a pain because you won't be able to make your hair look that emo. But as it grows, comb it in the direction that you want; towards either eye.
  2. When the fringe reaches 3/4 of the way down your forehead, go to a hairdresser that looks professional, and get it thinned out and have it trimmed so that it will grow in the right shape.
  3. After 3 months your hair should start to be recognizable as an emo hair style. From now on, go to the hair dressers every month to get it thinned out and guided into the style
  4. Good emo fringes finish at the nostrils and some of the better styles have sides that are also long. When your hair reaches its desired length (usually after 9-12 months of starting to grow it out) get it trimmed and thinned out every month. See below for maintaining tips.

Tips

  • Don't wash your hair too much, this can dry it out.
  • Don't bleach your hair, especially if you plan on dying it another permanent color in the future. Bleach makes your hair brittle and this is unhealthy.
  • After washing your hair with a good moisturizing shampoo, use a leave in conditioner to prevent your hair from getting damaged.
  • Don't wax your hair against your head, this can cause spot problems.
  • Straighten your hair if it is naturally curly, and use serums that give your hair a shine and keep it moisturized.
  • Use wax to style the back of your hair if you spike it, hair gel isn't as good and can cause spots if in constant contact with the skin. Wax is stronger and better for lengthy hair styles. Don't apply giant globs either.
  • If you have dyed hair, your hair is most likely a little dry. To protect your hair, wash your hair only 3 times a week. Deep conditioning can seriously fade dyed hair, so instead (this sounds gross but it really works wonders) put mayonnaise mixed with olive oil all over your hair, wrap it up in plastic wrap, sit for 2 hours, rinse and voila! Your hair is incredibly soft and silky. (What all emos want right?) The whole aim is to create a *mysterious* look.

Things You'll Need

  • Combs
  • Hair straightening irons
  • Moisturizing shampoo and leave-in conditioner
  • hair wax:better to back comb your hair
  • Serums that control hair to be straight and shiny. You should use these to style the long parts of you hair after straightening
