Hang a Spoon from Your Nose

You can amaze your friends and get attention at a banquet by hanging a spoon from your nose or by hanging multiple spoons from your nose and face. It is harder than it looks.

Steps

Rubbing Method

  1. Put the concave surface of a clean regular teaspoon to your nose, with the handle pointing vertically down.
  2. Hold the spoon lightly and gently begin to rub it downward against your nose. Exert a slight pressure on the downstroke but lift slightly and give no pressure on the upstroke. Eventually you will feel a slight tendency for the spoon to resist on the downstroke.
  3. Gently take your hand away and the spoon will hang from your nose. You don't need to put anything on the spoon. When you are doing this correctly, you don't need to hold your head back.

Breathe Method

  1. Breathe on the spoon, creating a "Huh" noise. It's either this, or lick the spoon gently. Don't drench it!
  2. Immediately after breathing on or licking the spoon, place it on your nose so that it is up high, but not too high. It can basically be placed anywhere on your nose, as long as it is on the ledge of it.
  3. There you have it! Your spoon is balanced perfectly on your nose (if you did it right)!
  4. Finished.

Tips

  • If you wish to go one-up on others who have learned the trick, try hanging a fork from your nose. Same technique applies. Don't be afraid to use a meat fork if that's what it takes to establish your dominance.
  • If the spoon tends to slide off, try breathing on it just a bit. The tiny bit of moisture may help it stick better.
  • It usually takes several attempts to learn to hang a spoon. Once you can do one spoon, try hanging spoons elsewhere on your face. You can hang spoons from your forehead, from just beneath your eyes, and from your chin. However, when hanging a spoon from a spot other than your nose, rub with the convex side down. Eventually you can do about six spoons at once - one from your chin, one from your nose, two from your eye sockets, and two from your forehead.
  • Practice makes perfect!
  • You can also graduate to larger spoons but this is even harder!

Warnings

  • If you try this at, say, a wedding banquet, or any other formal public get together, you may get unwanted attention!

Things You'll Need
