Have a Hipster Bedroom

Steps
- Donate anything you don't like or have grown out of. But you should definitely save things that you think you could customize or make cooler. You don't want your bedroom to look bare, if you don't like that table, you could always cover it with something or decorate it to make it look nicer. The key to making your bedroom look cozy and cool is not having many bare spaces in your room! You don't want your room to look like a show bedroom that has no ounce of your personality in it.If you look at the picture bellow, this bedroom is nice, but it doesn't really give you any idea of who's bedroom it is or what they are like.
- Choose calm colors like cream, lavender, baby blue or white. Dark colors in a small room, will make you feel too enclosed. It is better to have a plain color because lots of things can easily fit in your room without having to stick to a certain color scheme.
- Lighten up the look of the room. Adding lights to your bedroom will give it a warm and cozy feel. It's good because you can choose a lamp that you really like that adds personality to your room. Fairy lights and lantern lights make the room look cool and cozy, and they are also relaxing to have on before you go to bed. You could use Christmas tree lights if your parents don't mind. A good example of lighting is Bella Swan's room in twilight. She has lots of fairy lights and a few lamps and it really creates a relaxed atmosphere.
- Add layers to your bed. Things like canopies and fabric above your bed bring focus to it and creates a calm feel. Adding cushions and throws on your bed is a good idea too, especially in winter. You could create your own cushions out of old scarves and fabric. This will add personality to your bedroom and helps to make it look unique! If you aren't really the creative type there are lots of choices in home stores such as Dunelm Mill and Laura Ashley (A bit more expensive). You could also add fabric between the bottom of your bed and the floor to hide under-bed storage and to create a cosy feel, you could even use unused curtains from your house there if you put the ridged seams under the mattress where they can't be seen. If you look at the photo below, the layers look so cosy and welcoming.
- Don't use all matched furnishings. This might sound odd, but this makes a bedroom look all one color and it doesn't create a layered look. Try using odd things as furniture like a big old chest for a bedside table or painted crates for shelving. It's a good idea to use different materials other than wood, but try to keep the colors coordinated with each other, otherwise your bedroom will look way too mismatched. Keep in mind that using pine and beech isn't a crime, they look good together and aren't too clashing.
- Use natural materials. A woolen rug, a faux fur throw and flowers will make any bedroom look more inviting. It helps to bring the outside in, creating an earthy look. Don't go to drastic with plants, just a few here and there or just one will do. A good idea is drying out strands of lavender and putting it into a nice mug or glass from home- this will cost no money at all and adds a lovely touch to your bedroom.
- Reuse old things and give it a new life! Anything from an old kitchen chair to a coca-cola can, you can change! Cutting, gluing or painting things on or even adding fabric will make your bedroom unique and is also good for the environment. Try looking at before and after websites for inspiration. Just a lick of paint could change something old and ugly into something that looks good as new!
- Personalize walls and add little touches. Adding stuff like posters, lettering, photo collages, framed photos, keepsakes, tickets, signs, fabric to your walls will stop them looking so generic and will add depth and personality. You could cut letters from the pages of your favorite magazine or an old book and create a wall piece of your name or your favorite quote. There are lots of examples of this on We <3 It. An antique mirror, a potted cactus, boxes ,dream catchers, a guitar, books... anything will add essences of your personality. Try to rearrange how you present things in your bedroom.
