Make Your Room Look Psychedelic

Creating a psychedelic room can be a lot of fun with the vibrant colors and "trippy" patterns. Whether you are the quintessential hippie or a college student looking for a different kind of look, you'll want to read on.

Steps

  1. Get a blacklight. Get at least 2 blacklight bulbs (about 4 to 6 dollars each at any hardware store or party store). put them in your lamps and sockets. This alone adds a huge amount of psychedelia.
  2. Paint your walls. Paint your room a deep purple, blue, or green. Your room should look as good in the day as it does at night. You need to think about both when going for room decoration.
    • Laundry detergent glows under black light. Try painting the corners of the room with it. You don't notice it under regular light, but with just the black light on, the room is outlined in glow.
  3. Buy a lava lamp or plasma lamp. In this case, bigger is better. Much better. Try to get a basic design with trippy colors. trippy colors are: Purple, Green, Yellow and Neon Blue. Red is not a trippy color.
  4. Decorate your walls. Go out and buy some awesome black light posters, which will glow under black light. Also, get some different psychedelic posters for during the day, with big trippy shapes or wizards and fairies. Band posters work great as well. Get some glow in the dark stars and stick them to the walls and ceiling all over your room, and especially over your bed, these glow too, and look really cool at night.
  5. Buy a shag rug to go in the middle of your room or in front of a piece of furniture. Any color except for Red or White. Put it down. put something in the center, like the lava lamp mentioned above.
  6. If you have the room, go to a thrift store or flea market and buy an old vintage love seat/couch, beanbag chair, inflatable chair, or butterfly chair.
  7. Add some cool throw pillows and a Mexican blanket.
  8. You can paint shelves and chairs in glow in the dark paint.
  9. Get a cool bedspread. Tie dye looks really cool, as does one that is covered in stars and moons. Also get lots of cool pillows.
  10. Get some door beads. Put them over your door or over your windows.
  11. Get some incense, and a cool or exotic looking incense holder.

Tips

  • A nice touch to a trippy space is having strange looking pillows around.
  • Be sure not to make everything all cluttered. You don't need 4 mattresses lying all around on your floor, as it defeats the purpose of the shag.
  • You can also add glow in the dark stars to your ceiling or walls.
  • Try not to use too much red. It is too violent a color.
  • You can buy most items off of eBay or from a thrift store for cheaper.

  • If you are living with your parents, ensure that making over your room to look psychedelic is okay.
  • Check with whoever owns the house that painting walls is permitted before starting any projects.
