Headbang
Headbanging is the style of dancing that accompanies metal and sub-metal genres. Want to look cool to your fellow metalheads? Want to show off your metal prowess as you fly into the sunrise of metal like a Cerberus from the apocalypse? Some people have difficulty with it, and suffer from neck strain afterward -- but that won't happen to you if you do it right. Stay true!
Steps
- Stretch your neck beforehand and turn your head a bit to lessen the probability of a neck strain. Your head can ache the next morning otherwise.
- Start with the simple rhythm nod, nodding your head backwards a bit then flicking forward, repeating with the rhythm.
- Move on to the head drummer and bend over and continuously headbang to the fast drum beats.
- Try the hard slammer: swinging your head from head height to waist height. Do this to the long beat of the song, so if the song has a drum set beat behind it headbang on the bass, because this kind is too long to do real fast.
- Then, try the windmill. Spin your head in a circle and let hair fly.Add some of your own style to your headbang so you don't look like a poser.
- However, when the song has ended, be sure to remain in a bent down position for some moments, as it may be difficult to walk, after all, your sense of balance may be affected.
- Decide how many beats per riff you'll be headbanging to and at what speed
- Look up the music video for the song and see how the band that plays it head bang.
- After a few days of practice, not only will you be able to mosh like a god, you will gain the ability to beat people up with your hair.
Tips
- Don't be intimidated by how others headbang or what they do, the important thing is to have fun and let yourself go!
- If you are headbanging for the first time, don't be surprised, that your neck will be sore for the next couple of days.
- Don't forget to get into the music, but maybe not so into it that you accidentally headbutt someone else!
- There are many other ways to headbang; watch rock concerts and look at how the band members headbang.
- Practice jumping! It'll make you look even better when head banging.
- Find some music you like. There are many kinds of music to headbang to. These range from classic rock to speed metal. Once you're into a song, your head starts banging all by itself!
- Try not to bang your head at more than 45 degrees, because this can cause damage to your neck.
- Don't always just swing your head downwards, try sideways and upwards.
- Hard slamming can hurt, so bend your knees, twitch your head backwards, swing your head down to waist height and slow down your head (stopping it instantly can hurt).
- There are several basic types of headbanging depending on the genre/part of the music you are listening to. Heavy breakdowns or bridges warrant a long, slow movement with emphasis on the downward motion of the hair. Quick stuff for moshing or skating is speed-headbanging time! Quick, short motions are key.
- Try to put your entire body into it, such as bouncing on your tippy toes when you swing your head, and moving your torso forwards. This helps with how energetic you look, and makes you seem less stiff.
- Long hair definitely helps. Once you have started in a circular, vertical or horizontal motion, the hair just does the rest...and it's super cool.
- Adding a TINY bit of water added to your hair also helps add weight
- Long hair acts as a counterweight and takes some strain off of your neck. Short hair will increase the probability of neck problems.
- Don't headbang to rap.
- Have long hair; it makes it look more intense.
- Make sure you're in an open space where you can't hit anything with your head.
Warnings
- if it is your first couple times headbanging your neck will become very loose and it will be difficult to hold you head up if this happens just relax and remember the more you headbang the more your neck will strength. your neck will still be sore usually for a day or 2 no matter how long you have head banged
- You can accidentally hit your head on something and this can hurt very badly! Especially look out for people with spikes on arms or shoulders, as it can be very painful to ram your head into some long sharp spikes!
- Take things one step at a time, otherwise your neck won't last.
- Headbanging in any way can cause bad headaches; so, if you're not ready to accept that, then you're better off avoiding it.
- If you don't warm up, prepare to suffer days of a terrible and painful neck strain.
- Give yourself some head space or you will headbutt someone and they could take it the wrong way.
- Head banging to a beat may be advisable when listening to slower music, but headbanging to origin or 1349 at full-speed is impossible. Try half speed or quarter-speed.
- Notice that any liquid in your drinking horn may spill your or someone else's trousers while banging your head. Therefore, empty it beforehand or drink from a bottle.
- Don't think you're a pro at first because you don't know what is going to happen the next day.
