Hide Your Diary when You Share a Room

It's hard enough to hide a diary when you have nosy people in the house. It's even harder when you have to share a room with a nosy someone! Whether it's a sibling, a roommate, or just a guest, here are some specific tips on how to hide your diary when you're sharing a room.

Steps

  1. Be sure your diary isn't being read. Another good method is to tie a thieves knot (look up if not familiar with) around your diary so as it must be untied (not slipped off) to access the diary. It looks like a square knot, but it is different. The perpetrator will then tie a square knot around the diary when finished. This is how you can tell if someone has been reading it.
  2. Follow the general method for hiding your diary as best as you can. You will probably encounter the most difficulty when you are trying to find time to actually hide the diary, as you don't want the other person to see you hiding it. If you share a room, it's very difficult to be discreet.
  3. Reach an agreement with your roommate. If you can trust them to keep it, that is. Make sure it is a fair agreement, too. Don't read your roommate's diary, either. If you can't trust them, then why should they trust you?
  4. Build trust. Develop such a close friendship with your roommate that they know everything about you already and don't feel the need to read your diary. But, even if they do, they'll probably find that you've already told them everything that's in there already, and they won't feel compelled to read it again. It'll be old news to them!
  5. Lock up your diary. Use a combination lock or, if you must use a key, keep the key somewhere else; not in your room. What about your locker or your car? Wherever it is, make sure it is a place you never share with your roommate.
  6. Make an ultimatum. If you have the power (i.e. you own the house, are primary renter, etc) then give your roommate an ultimatum. If they don't stop reading your diary, you can kick them out of the residence. The threat of being kicked out on the street is a powerful medium. This is a last resort, and confronting your roommate like this under any other circumstances could be damaging.

Step 6

  1. Constantly change its place randomly, so no one can figure out when and where you are hiding it. Ideas: under your bed, in your drawer with underwear, in between clothes, decorate it to look like a notebook, etc.

Tips

  • Do not tell them you have a diary, and don't use it in front of them. If they don't know you have one, they wouldn't look for it.

  • You can hide your diary inside a shoe box, behind other books in a bookshelf, or even in your makeup case or 3DS game bag. Be creative!

Warnings

  • Make sure you don't hurt anyone's feelings if you are going to kick them out of the house. The best option is to not do this, anyway, why give away a roommate just for a diary?
