Increase Your Fertility

Want to increase your fertility and get pregnant faster? Read on for some valuable fertility tips for those trying to conceive.

Steps

  1. Take care during the preconception period to prepare your body for conception and pregnancy. Fertility is obviously essential when getting pregnant, so let's discuss some simple ways to improve your fertility foundation.
  2. Determine your ovulation date. The best ways to find out when (and if) you ovulate are basal body temperature charting, using ovulation predictor kits, and observing cervical mucus changes. Using more than one method gives you a more accurate determination of your ovulation date.
  3. Get tested. If you find that you're not ovulating regularly (or not at all), then get some lab testing done to see if your hormone levels are normal. Your doctor will be able to determine which tests will be helpful.
  4. Diet and exercise! Eat lots of fruits and veggies (5+ servings daily), drink lots of purified water (at least 8 glasses per day), take a multivitamin/mineral supplement with at least 400 mcg of folic acid, and exercise for 15-20 minutes at least three times per week.
    • Stay away from harmful foods and drinks such as coffee and alcohol. Your doctor should provide you for a list of foods to avoid if you ask.
  5. Determine your BMI and act accordingly. Lose weight if your BMI is 25 or greater; excess weight will make it more difficult to conceive. Slimming down to an optimal weight will improve your chances of becoming pregnant.

Tips

  • It is good for the woman to stay lying down after intercourse with hips slightly elevated on a rolled up towel or pillow in order to help the sperm get to their destination. Wait about 15 minutes before getting up.
  • Try to relax and have fun. Trying to conceive for several months or years can be very stressful. Sometimes a change of pace is needed, like a vacation or new idea for romance.
  • The best way to increase and improve cervical mucus is to drink lots and lots of water. Evening primrose oil (EPO) is also beneficial for many women to help increase their cervical mucus.
  • Take at least 50 mg a day of vitamin B6.
  • Make sure your cervical mucus is of egg-white consistency, as this is very important in order to keep the sperm alive longer after intercourse.
  • Vitex is also a good choice
  • Take your basal body temperature (BBT) at the same time every morning and note any changes (new medications or less sleep, etc.) that might affect the temperature reading.
  • The man-on-top position is the best overall position for conception, although the "super sperm" can survive no matter what if the environment is right with highly fertile cervical mucus.
