Install a Remote Entry System on a Dodge Avenger

Winter is right around the corner, are you dreading getting in your on that frigid winter morning? Well follow this step-by-step guide to install your own Remote Entry System on your Dodge Avenger and you can have it nice and toasty by the time you get in.

Steps

  1. Open the hood of the vehicle.
    • CAUTION: Vehicle must be turned off prior to installation.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    • WARNING: Make sure the negative battery cable is secured away from the positive battery terminal. Contact between the two battery terminals could lead to an electrical fire.
  3. Make sure the remote start harness is installed from the factory.
  4. Install hood switch (1) and connect the electrical connector (2).
  5. Install the hood switch stopper (1).
  6. Remove the fuse box cover and install the remote start fuse.
  7. Using the trim pry tool, release the two clips (1) and remove the instrument panel side cover.
  8. Remove both instrument garnish upper side covers.
  9. Remove the instrument panel upper cover.
    • Note: Use a flat head screwdriver to release clips on each corner.
  10. Remove the shifter bezel.
    • Note: Use a flat head screwdriver to release clips on each corner.
  11. Remove the heater control module (1) and disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Note: Use a flat head screwdriver to release clips on the bezel.
  12. Remove the radio bezel (1).
  13. Disconnect the radio bezel electrical connector (1).
  14. Remove the four radio bolts (1) and the radio (2).
    • Note: Use a T-20 Torx screwdriver to remove the bolts.
  15. Disconnect the radio electrical connectors (1).
  16. Remove the center console end cap.
  17. Remove the two center console upper bolts.
  18. Remove the 4 center console bolts (1) and remove the center console.
    • WARNING: The plastic may be sharp, be sure to wear proper protection before removal.
    • Note:
      • Open center console to access the two bolts.
      • Use ratchet, extension and 10mm socket to remove bolts.
  19. Remove the lower kick panel bolt (1).
  20. Remove the two plastic retainers (1).
  21. Remove the lower kick panel (1).
  22. Remove the lower steering cover bolts (1).
  23. Remove the steering cover (1).
  24. Remove the upper instrument panel bolts (1).
    • Note: Use ratchet and T-20 Torx socket.
  25. Remove the upper instrument panel.
  26. Remove the cluster trim cover.
  27. Remove the two cluster bolts (1) and the cluster (2).
    • Note: Disconnect electrical connector before removing the cluster.
  28. Install the remote key less entry module (1) and secure the bolts (2).
    • Note: Connect electrical connector to the cluster.
  29. Install the cluster (2) and the two cluster bolts (1).
  30. Install the cluster trim cover.
    • Note: Use ratchet and T-20 Torx socket.
  31. Install the upper instrument panel.
  32. Install the upper instrument panel bolts (1).
  33. Install the steering cover (1).
  34. Install the lower steering cover bolts (1).
  35. Install the lower kick panel (1).
  36. Install the two plastic retainers (1).
  37. Install the lower kick panel bolt (1).
    • Note: Use ratchet, extension and 10mm socket.
  38. Install the center console and fasten the four center console bolts (1).
  39. Install the two center console upper bolts.
  40. Install the center console end cap.
  41. Connect the radio electrical connectors (1).
  42. Install the radio (2) and the four radio bolts (1).
    • Note: Use T-20 Torx screwdriver to install the bolts.
  43. Connect the radio bezel electrical connector (1).
  44. Install the radio bezel (1) and connect the electrical connector.
  45. Install the heater control module (1).
  46. Install the shifter bezel (1).
  47. Install the instrument panel side cover.
  48. Connect the negative battery cable.
  49. Test the operation.  Make sure all doors lock and the remote start works properly.
  50. Close the hood.
