Keep Your Hands Soft During the Winter Time

It's time for Winter to arrive! Those dry, cracked, and hurting hands aren't feeling so great and getting you nowhere and you want them feeling soft and smooth!

Steps

  1. Once you're awake in the morning, apply a generous amount of Vaseline or any type of moisturizing hand cream or lotion. Mostly on the dry area's, such as your knuckles, your fingertips and in between your thumb and index finger.
  2. Wear Gloves. Gloves are great accessories when Winter arrives. After you've applied lotion, whether you are going out to work or to school; always wear gloves. Leather gloves are more reliable than cotton or polyester gloves, though anything covering your hands during the cold season will work.
  3. Bring lotion with you! A small bottle of lotion is always handy when you're at work or at school and feeling the irritation and burning sensation of your cracked skin. The unscented kind are probably better off than the floral, fruity (they leave a bit of a distraction) ones when you're out in public. May i recommend Aveeno?
  4. Before Bed, take some of the same body lotion (unscented, scented - doesn't matter) and apply it over the dry areas of your hands, elbows, wrists, feet. Make sure you're especially applying the lotion over your hands and knuckles until they feel somewhat smooth. (The process isn't quick.)
  5. Apply petroleum jelly at night. (Ignore this step if your hands aren't severely dry) Nighttime. Right before bed (and after you've applied lotion) apply some Vaseline or any brand of Petroleum jelly all over the dry areas of your hands. Those cotton gloves come in handy during this step! Carefully slip on the cotton gloves (the ones at the dollar store/any cheap ones are fine) and make sure the jelly is secure inside the gloves. Now, it may feel uncomfortable but it works. Sleep with the gloves on throughout the entire night. This is the only way your skin will have the time to heal without any distraction and keep soft during the entire night.
  6. Repeat, and good luck.

Tips

  • Don't share gloves with your friends. People can't help but sneeze into their hands. You wouldn't want to be getting the cold.
  • Keep your nails unpainted. If your hands are really dry and you don't want to wear gloves. Try to keep them unnoticed.
  • Always wear warm clothes when leaving the house. You want your body to stay as warm as possible.
  • If you don't own a pair of gloves, wear shirts with extra long sleeves to cover your hands.
  • When applying lotion, sometimes less is more.
  • When applying lotion, your hands may feel too slippery to turn doorknob, any spare towel or paper towel would help.
  • Eat dry fruit, which is healthy plus nutritional.

Warnings

  • Your hands may be too sensitive for certain types of lotions, mostly smelly lotions. Vaseline is the better alternative for this issue.
