Learn to Ride a Motorcycle
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to ride a motorcycle but don't know how to ride or where to start? Well here are some easy steps to learn to ride a motorcycle.
Steps
- Feel comfortable sitting on the bike, and know where everything is (clutch, throttle, etc.)
- Learn how to start the bike. Look at your manual, to find out where the key goes, how to turn on the engine and gas, and whether it is an electric-start or kick-start.
- Make sure you have an idea of how to ride a motorcycle (how much throttle to give and how fast to let off of the clutch). (If you are not used to the bike and you POP the clutch, you may stall or lose control.
- Also know how the different gears work and how and when to shift them.
Tips
- Don't be in a rush to learn.
- Practice until you become familiar with stopping the motorcycle as quickly as possible. Practice in a controlled environment. Always remember that the front brake will stop you much faster than just the rear brake by itself. Usually when braking quickly, the rear brake mainly serves to keep the rear end in line, and to slow the gyroscopic effect of the rear wheel and drive train.
- Get into the habit of keeping your finger on the brake lever when not accelerating, as precious milliseconds may save your life!
- Be patient. Don't give up, if you aren't able to get going on the first try.
- Go somewhere that is not real-busy (parking lot to ride and make sure u have someone with you, just in case things don't go well.)
