Line Kitchen Shelves
Using shelf liner in your kitchen can protect the wood underneath. It is also easy to remove when you want to change it to a new design or if it gets permanently soiled. It only takes an hour or two to line your shelves once you purchase the product.

Steps
Buy Your Shelf Liner
- Calculate the amount of liner you will need by measuring your shelves. The measurements do not have to be precise; a rough estimate will work.
- Choose your liner material. They come in plastic, coated paper, or cork mats or other materials. You can get adhesive-backed liner that will stick in place.
- Make sure you have a good pair of scissors or a sharp cutter to get a clean cut.
Install Your Shelf Liner
- Remove everything from the shelves.
- Clean the shelves with a cloth and warm water. Use a few drops of detergent in the water if you have very dirty or sticky shelves.
- Let the shelves dry.
- Measure the shelves with a tape measure. Get the width and depth at the widest points and mark them down on a piece of paper.
- Place the shelf liner face down on a solid surface and mark the correct area to cut. Use a tape measure or ruler to draw a straight line if the liner does not have grids to follow.
- Cut out your liner.
- Place the liner on the shelf and mark any notches that may need to be cut further.
- Cut and trim any areas to make a secure fit.
- Peel off the adhesive backing of the liners a little at a time and smooth the liner onto the shelf. Make sure there are no air bubbles.
- Restock your shelves when you are finished.
- Finished.
Tips
- You can use adhesive shelf liner and not take the backing off if you like the pattern, but you don’t want to mess with the adhesive or worry about how to get it off later.
