Make Baby Shower Invitations

After searching the web to find the perfect, inexpensive baby shower invites, and after seeing my choices, I decided I'd have to tough it out and make my own. This guide shows you how!

Steps

  1. Start with a visit to your favorite local craft store. Find a base page that you love. It's preferred to use sheets that are 12 x 12, but it doesn't matter the texture, just make sure you love it. My choice was a baby print on a key-lime color.
  2. Choose an 8.5" x 11" vellum style(see-through)paper. This paper can be any color, just make sure it looks good over the base paper you picked out. This is by far the hardest part. Choosing coordinating papers can be time consuming and don't be afraid to ask for a second opinion. My choice was a plain white paper, no under-lying pattern.
  3. Pick out an embellishment. My theme was rubber duckies, so a cute stamp along with a stamp pad in blue was perfect. My goal was simple, yet elegant and it fit perfectly.
  4. Your next goal will be to pick out what will hold the two papers together. I picked elegant brads that had colors that matched my base paper. I also considered using ribbon or ducky buttons, but found these brads were perfect.
  5. Using http://www.invitationland.com/, create a basic invitation. It is recommended that you use their footprint template and then make the footprint the same color to match the background(thus making it disappear), then fill in the information to your needs. It has a great printer setting where you can print one to four of the invitations on one page. This project uses their setting for 4 per a page.
  6. Print 4 per a page, on the three vellum pages. This will give you enough for 12 invitations. Let them dry for 5 minutes to avoid smearing.
  7. After they are done drying, stamp them, embellish them, whatever you're gonna do.
  8. Then cut them out. It's recommended that you use a rotary cutter instead of scissors. Tearing isn't recommended for vellum paper.
  9. Line up your print-outs on your chosen 12x12 paper or something similar. 12x12 paper sheets are perfect because it gives you exactly 6 invitations per sheet, so only two sheets are needed.
  10. Line them up and attach them to the base paper using brads or ribbon.
  11. Cut them out using a cutter or scissors, which ever you prefer.
  12. Congratulations on your inexpensive, baby shower invitations! Now go share them!

Tips

  • Pick a theme or have several in mind when you go. Stick with those as you shop.
  • Stick with 3-4 colors, any more can be very overwhelming.
  • 8.5" x 11" paper might work, but you'll need more than two sheets to complete the project.
  • Try something that's not pastel or traditional! This project used royal blue and key-lime green with jeweled and red accents!

Warnings

  • The ink from the stamp took longer to dry than I though, just watch out!
  • Don't try to tear the vellum, it won't work.
