Make Candy Clay

Candy clay is a delicious treat. It is ideal for little tots who love the shapes you can make from it and it's just as awesome for sleepovers, especially if colored to the sleepover theme. It is also a delicious and easy treat for birthday parties

Ingredients

  • 4 cups powdered sugar (confectioner's sugar or icing sugar)
  • 4 tablespoons of water
  • Food coloring
  • Bowl
  • Spoon

Steps

  1. Place the 4 cups of powdered sugar into a bowl.
  2. Pour the 4 tablespoons of water into the bowl, with the powdered sugar. Stir the ingredients together until combined.
  3. Knead the candy clay until it turns soft and clay-like.
  4. Break the candy clay into four evenly-sized pieces.
  5. Add 2 drops of any color of food coloring onto each of the pieces of candy clay. Mix with the spoon.
    • If you don't want to use food coloring, you can use vanilla extract for a cream color, a small sprinkling of liquid made with cocoa powder for brown/chocolate brown or a little fruit juice for a red, orange, yellow, etc., depending on which juice you've used. Note that these will also flavor the candy clay.
  6. Make any shape you want.
  7. Let dry and harden. When done, the candy clay is ready to be eaten.

Tips

  • Kool-Aid flavored drink (not the powder itself) instead of water adds more flavor.
  • Add small candies for decoration.
  • For a mint flavor add a bit of peppermint extract. You can also add vanilla extract.
  • You can add more water if needed.
  • You may want to add some honey for a honeyed flavor.
  • A clean surface/bowl is key. You don't want bits of unknown material stuck in your clay!
  • You may want to add some peanut butter.

Warnings

  • Be sure everyone who plays with the clay has clean hands.
  • Don't plan to eat a whole batch by yourself! You wouldn't feel too good after ingesting several cups of sugar at once.
  • Do not mix the food coloring in with your hands because the coloring will dye them.
