Make Cheesy Garlic Bread

Looking for a simple appetizer to highlight your meal? This mouthwatering cheesy garlic bread will delight your guests or family members.

Ingredients

  • 1 sweet batard (a small baguette) or a normal-sized baguette
  • 1 stick (8 tablespoons) of butter, softened (microwave 20 seconds)
  • 4-6 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1-1.5 cups of shredded cheese such as Parmesan or Mozzarella (or a mix of several)
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley (finely chopped)

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}.
  2. Cut the bread in half horizontally. If the bread is too long for the cookie sheet, cut each end of the bread to be able to fit in the sheet.
  3. Place both sides of the bread on a cookie sheet with the cut side facing up.
  4. In a small bowl, mix butter and garlic and spread evenly on the bread slices, using a spoon or a spatula.
  5. With the back of a spoon or a spatula, press the garlic butter combination down on the bread so the garlic pieces are pushed into the air pockets of the bread.

  6. When oven is ready, put the cookie sheet in for 15 minutes and remove from the oven.
  7. Change the oven setting to high broil so that you can put the bread back in later.
  8. Either sprinkle the cheese over the bread then, sprinkle the chopped parsley, or mix in the chopped parsley with the cheese in a bowl and sprinkle the mixture over the bread. Either way, make sure to sprinkle the cheese and parsley evenly over the bread slices.

  9. When the oven is ready, put the bread back in to broil for 1 minute or until the cheese has completely melted and is golden in a few places.
  10. Remove from the oven and slice the bread diagonally, making sure not to squeeze the bread while doing so.
  11. Enjoy!

Tips

  • It is better if you sprinkle cheese and parsley before putting the bread into oven as it can overcook the bread also.
  • Prepare ingredients before starting to cook (ex. finely chop garlic) to make the process as easy and fast as possible.
  • When you finely chop the garlic, cut off the brown end of each garlic so that those pieces will not go into your garlic bread.
  • When you cut the bread diagonally, be sure to have the cookie sheet flat on a surface, so it does not accidentally drop when you put pressure on the sheet.
  • If you cut off each end of the bread, store the slices in a ziplock bag and put in the freezer for use in the future.

Warnings

  • Be careful when you open the oven door to put in or remove the cookie sheet, and always use oven mitts.
  • Use oven mitts when you cut the bread after it is all done, so that you do not burn your hand when you put pressure on the cookie sheet.

Things You'll Need

  • A cookie sheet (such as 17x11 inches)
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Oven
  • Oven mitts
  • Bread Knife and a regular knife
  • Small bowl
