Make Chipmunk Songs
The Chipmunks are a cartoon band that sing in an incredibly high voice. The original way that this effect was created was to tape-record a song and then play it back at double the speed. These instructions will allow you to turn any song into something that sounds like it is being sung by the Chipmunks.
Steps
Audacity
- Find the song you want to make sound like chipmunk.
- Download Audacity, a free open source audio manipulation program.
- Click File>Open and select the song you wish to change.
- Highlight the entire song.
- Click Effects and go to Change Pitch.
- Change the percent to 115.500.(Usually 100.00 is the same key just an octave higher)
- Alternatively, change the Semitones (half-steps) to 12.
- Click OK.
- If you want to put it on a CD or on your iPod, click File>Export as a WAV music file.
- Listen to your new chipmunk song!
iMovie
- Go to iMovie. Find a background and drag it in. Click on the inspector tool to make the background stay for the same time as the song.
- Find a song and drag it in.
- You'll find a little gear on the song. Click on the arrow next to it, and select "clip adjustments."
- Adjust the song. You can make the pitch higher or lower. Click "Pitch Up 4." That's the highest pitch there is. This will ensure that your song sounds like a chipmunk song.
- Click "share" and click "export video." Now you can drag it to your desktop and email it to your friends!
Tips
- Play around with Audacity, you can make some cool effects with it.
- If the pitch is too high, and the "Chipmunk" voices are too high, instead of putting the pitch to 115.500, change it to something lower.
- You cannot open special media files such as .wma, as these are protected media files.
Warnings
- You can't open protected media files such as .wma with Audacity.
