Make Cologne Water
There is something special about making your own perfume products at home from fresh ingredients, without chemical additions. This is a recipe for cologne from the 1800s and it will be as delightful as many a bought perfume. Great idea for gifts.

Ingredients
- 7ml lavender oil
- 3.5ml rosemary oil
- 3.5ml orange oil
- 3.5ml bergamot oil
- 7ml musk essence
- 10 drops attar of rose
- 475ml proof spirit (e.g., vodka)
Steps
- Assemble the oils and other ingredients in advance.
- Pour the ingredients into a ceramic bowl.
- Stir together.
- Pour into a clean bottle and place the lid on.
- Shake well. During the next week, the cologne should be shaken together thoroughly three times a day.
- Store and use. If giving as a gift, add a label with the ingredients printed on it.
Tips
- All perfumes change over time and become rancid. This homemade version should be stored in a dark and cool place. Use within 6 months of making.
- Cologne water is also known as eau de cologne.

- Ceramic bowl
- Wooden or melamine mixing spoon
- Funnel for pouring into bottle
- Clean, sterilised bottle; dark glass is preferable to keep direct light from penetrating
