Make Cookie Cups

Although they may look difficult to make, cookie cups are an easy way to impress your guests (or kids) without a lot of fuss. Create little cups from cookie dough and fill with just about anything. From ice cream to fruit and cream; cookie cups go with just about any dessert.

Steps

Purchase Ingredients and Tools

  1. Pick up a package of refrigerated cookie dough. A 16.5-ounce package of your favorite dough will do the trick and save you time in the kitchen. Look for pre-cut cookie shapes too to make your job easier.
    • Make homemade cookie dough for an extra added touch or for a special occasion.
  2. Find (or purchase) a regular size muffin tin. The muffin tins will create the cookie cup shape so consider what you plan to put inside.
  3. Grab a stick of butter or a can of non-stick butter spray. You will need to grease each muffin cup before adding the cookie dough.
    • Line muffin tin foil cups with paper or foil cups if you don’t have butter or non stick spray. Using paper or tin foil cups may also be a good way to serve the cookie cups too.

Create and Bake Cookie Cups

  1. Prepare to bake cookie cups. Get muffin tins and oven ready before proceeding with cup creation.
    • Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
    • Grease muffin tin with a stick of butter or with nonstick spray.
  2. Unwrap refrigerated cookie dough and remove two cookies. If you are working with homemade dough (or dough from a tub) slice or roll two large discs.
  3. Press the two cookies or circles together. You want to form one large “cookie” with the two smaller cookies.
  4. Lay the cookie on top of the muffin tin cup and gently press it into the bottom and work around the sides.
    • Cut any excess cookie dough away from the muffin tin cup if the cookie dough spills out of the cup.
  5. Bake for 20 to 24 minutes or until golden brown. Check cups often while baking to ensure you don’t over bake or burn the cups.
  6. Cool cookie cups on a wire rack while still inside the muffin tin. The cup center will indent slightly during the cooling process.
  7. Remove cooled cookie cups with the tip of a butter knife. Carefully slide the knife down, behind the cookie cup wall and ease the cup from the muffin pan.

Fill Cups

  1. Avoid filling cups until you are ready to serve (unless you are filling them with candy). Leaving any type of liquid or perishable item inside the cups could create a soggy cups.
  2. Fill with fruit and yogurt for a healthier approach to the dessert.
  3. Add ice cream and sprinkles or let your guests build their own sundae using the cookie cups.
  4. Create a decadent dessert by creating rocky road cookie cups. When cookie cups emerge from the oven, immediately add a mixture of chocolate chips, mini marshmallows and chopped nuts.

Tips

  • Use the cookie cups instead of pie dough to make mini-pies.
  • Make cups ahead of time and freeze for a quick, last minute dessert.
