Make Driving Safe and Affordable

When on road it is your duty to drive safely and follow the traffic and safety rules. Any kind of carelessness may lead to a mishap resulting in the loss of valuable life and property. You need to closely follow simple rules and regulations on traffic and safety to avoid accidents.

Steps

  1. When buying a car, you must try visiting as many car dealers as you can to get the best price.
  2. Instead of directly going to the insurance company and paying the price asked for, use the internet for visiting price comparison websites and hunt out the best deals, it all comes down to shopping around. You can get best prices only if you use your patience to look about and do due diligence.
  3. While driving, make sure that you sit behind the wheel with a lucid head. You should never drive under the influence of alcohol or take any kind of drugs as these may impair your judgement and reaction time.
  4. When driving alone, especially when sleep deprived and at night, the chances of a crash are dramatically increased. So you must drive with a companion in your vehicle or not drive at all. This increases your overall alertness.
  5. When on medication, you must read the labels very carefully and make sure that the medicine doesn’t cause drowsiness. If the label says that the medicine results in drowsiness, avoid driving while under treatment.
  6. You must make sure that you allow plenty of extra time to reach your destination and have the margin for any emergency and traffic jams. By allowing extra time, you can be relaxed while driving. This cuts down on the incidences of road rage, excessive speeding, tailgating and weaving in and out between cars.
  7. You must avoid the aggressive driving by deliberately relaxing and cultivating patience. You must follow traffic signals & indications.
  8. Always wear your safety belt and make sure all your passengers are buckled properly, even on short trips.
  9. You must avoid taking your eyes off the road by eliminating any possible distractions.
  10. Avoid taking phone calls and never attempt texting while driving.

Tips

  • If you go to a party where alcohol is being served, designate a driver or choose alternative means of transportation such as taxicab or public transportation.
  • When travelling on long trips make sure, you eat light as heavy meals can make you feel drowsy.
  • Make sure children ages 12 and under are always buckled up in the back seat, the safest place to ride.
  • Before setting out on a drive, be sure that important items are within easy reach, i.e. directions and maps, sunglasses, etc.
  • Sometimes roads may be covered by thin ice ("black ice"), which you may not notice. When you are not sure how slippery the roads are, try a low-speed braking test while driving slowly in a safe area (e.g. parking lot). This will give you an idea what is your vehicle's braking ability.

Warnings

  • Before start moving your vehicle, clean the windshield, windows, mirrors, and lights from snow. Don't drive until you have clear visibility.
  • Tinted rear window increases the risk of rear end collision because the driver behind you cannot see the stop lights of the car in front of you.
