- 2 tbsp paraffin oil (mineral oil)
- 20 g / 0.7 oz natural soap powder
- {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} / 16 fl. oz water
Steps
- Obtain some garlic.
- Chop the garlic into small pieces.
- Mix the chopped garlic with the rest of the ingredients.
- Pour into an open container. A bucket, large bowl, mason jar or other similar container will work well.
- Allow to stand for 2 days. Put to one side out of reach of children, pets and curious spouses. Leaving it aside will enable the garlic to infuse throughout the spray mixture.
- Strain the mixture.
- Pour into a spray bottle.
- Use the spray. It is an excellent spray for roses and any other plants subject to sucking insects. It will protect plants from insect damage and fungal growth. Use in place of sulphur sprays to control fungal problems.
- Finished.
Tips
- This spray should be stored in a cool, dark place. Use within one week of making or freeze to prevent rotting.
- A version without paraffin (mineral oil) is also fine - make up a soap spray and add 1 - 2 heads chopped garlic and sufficient boiling water to cover. Follow the straining etc. instructions as set out above.
- Garlic spray is excellent for controlling mealy bugs, aphids and other sucking insects.
- As an added bonus, this spray works to repel mice and deer, who dislike the smell of garlic.
