Make Gel Air Freshener
Everyone likes a nice smell in their home. But store bought air fresheners can be expensive. Here´s how to make your own at a fraction of the cost!
Steps
- Bring 1 cup of distilled water to a boil.
- Add 4 packages of unflavored gelatin and stir until dissolved.
- Remove the mixture from the heat.
- Stir in the other cup of water.
- Add 10-20 drops of essential oil or other concentrated fragrance.
- Add food coloring to tint your gel if you like.
- Add a mold inhibitor, such as salt, a small amount of potassium sorbate or a splash of vodka.
- Pour the gel into clean baby food jars or other small containers. You can decorate the containers if you want.
- Place the air fresheners in the refrigerator for a quick set (and scented fridge).
- Finished.
Tips
- You can make multicolored gels by pouring a new color over one which has already set, like making a layered Jello dessert.
- Adult supervision is required, since this project requires heat.
- For a quick fix: carefully dissolve gelatin in concentrated liquid potpourri to make your air fresheners. Use a ratio of 1 cup liquid to 2 packages gelatin.
Things You'll Need
- 2 cups distilled water
- essential oil/fragrance
- 4 packages unflavored gelatin
