Make a Lemon Juice Air Freshener

Avoid the unlisted chemicals in commercial air fresheners by making your own delightful air freshener at home from known ingredients. This one is easy and healthy for humans, pets, indoor plants and the atmosphere. Lemons are natural deodorizers, and will give your home a pleasant scent.

Ingredients

Steps

  1. Add the baking soda, lemon juice and essential oil to a medium sized bowl.
  2. Add the hot water.
  3. Stir with a wooden spoon to dissolve. Allow to cool.
  4. Pour the dissolved mixture into a spray bottle.
  5. Alternatively, you can skip the bowl, by simply putting the baking soda, lemon juice, essential oil, and hot water into your spray bottle, and shaking it well.
  6. Spritz the air whenever needed. Shake well before spraying.

Tips

  • Solution will keep well in the toilet or a cool place.
  • Instead of freshly squeezed lemon juice, you can use orange peel or grapefruit peel as substitutes, if that is more convenient for you.

Warnings

  • Most essential oils (and artificial fragrances) are not recommended for some pets. Omit the essential oil or be careful using this around them.
  • To avoid leaving moisture droplets use a good quality spray bottle or better still a perfume atomizer.
  • Know the properties of any essential oil used. Those safest for skin touch are lavender and tea tree oil.
  • Use caution when using the mix in bottle method. Adding hot water to a container, sealing it and shaking will cause pressure to build up inside and possibly explode or shoot out of the top. Gentle, side-to-side shaking is all it takes.
