Make Glass Stone Magnets

Here's a wikiHow on how to make your own cool, and beautiful, glass stone magnets. They are very easy to make, and don't take very much time! Check the steps below to make them.

Steps

  1. Gather the materials needed. They are listed at the end of the article in the "Things You'll Need" section.
  2. Apply a base coat of clear nail polish to the flat side of your glass stone. Make sure you don't put any nail polish on the curved side. Allow the base coat layer to dry completely and don't touch it before then.
  3. Start adding layers of color to the flat side of your stone. If you want your stone magnet to be sparkly/glitter, try putting on glitter nail polish. If you do not have glitter nail polish, applying regular glitter to the wet clear coat will work just as well.
    • If you have added your sparkles, make sure that the glitter layer is dry before you start adding the solid colored nail polish.
  4. Add the solid colored nail polish. You can marble it by adding a single blob to the middle, and another blob of nail polish to the side of it, then slowly swirling them together with a toothpick. If you do it too much mixing, they will turn into a mess!
  5. If you have all the layers and color you want on, let the last layer dry completely.
  6. Add another clear coat of nail polish to the rock once the last layer has dried. Let the clear layer dry as well.
  7. Take your hot glue/tacky glue and apply a good-sized blob to the middle of the rock. Make sure you add the glue to the flat side, over the nail polish.
  8. Place the magnet directly onto the glue. If it's hot glue, be sure to push it down a lot.
  9. Once you are sure the glue is dry, it's finished!
    • Hot glue will take a matter of seconds for it to dry. Wait a minute before touching to allow the glue to be completely set.
    • Tacky glue may take a day, so do not mess around with your rock at all unless you know it is completely dried.
  10. Done! You are now finished with your glass stone magnet. Flip it over and you will see the curved side and pretty nail polish designs. Stick it to your fridge, calendar, etc--anything magnetic.

Tips

  • Don't add too many layers; only apply one solid color unless marbling the nail polish.
  • Add as much glitter as you want!
  • Make it your own! Use your favorite colors or a nail polish pen to make designs on it.
  • These are great gifts for friends!
  • If you mess up, you can always apply nail polish remover to your stone during the process (before you add the magnet).

Warnings

  • Hot glue is hot when touched, so be very careful when using it.
  • Don't touch the wet nail polish--it will smear and ruin your magnet!
