Make Hoisin Sauce

Hoisin sauce is a red-brownish colored sauce. It is used in many Chinese dishes to give a red hue in cooking and a sweet & sour taste.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons crushed yellow bean sauce
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cider or white wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine or sherry

Steps

  1. Measure and mix all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Pour the mixture into an airtight bottle.
  3. Place the bottle in the refrigerator for storage until ready to use.
  4. Finished.



Tips

  • Hoisin sauce can also be used for dipping. Egg rolls are an excellent food to use.
  • If you're not used to Asian spices, experiment with hoisin sauce a little at a time. This sauce has a stronger smell than other sauces.
