Make Hot Cocoa Mix
Homemade cocoa mix tastes really, really good. It's great for cold weather after you've been out sledding or picking apples. And if you go camping at any time of year, bring along a big bag of this delicious cocoa. It tastes best when sipped from inside a sleeping bag on a cool morning, in the middle of the woods.

Ingredients
- 4 cups of instant nonfat dry milk powder
- 1 1/2 to 2 cups of sugar
- 1 cup of powdered non-dairy creamer
- 2/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa
- 1 package of instant store-bought chocolate or a vanilla pudding mix (optional)
- chocolate chips (will melt and make cocoa taste like melted candy bars)
Steps
Making the Mix
- Add the ingredients to a dry, clean bowl.
- Use a whisk to stir everything together. If the mixture clumps, smash the little balls with a fork.
- When everything is evenly distributed, transfer the hot cocoa mix to a clean coffee can, or a sealed canister.
Preparing the Hot Cocoa
- Spoon a third of a cup of the hot cocoa mix into a cup or mug.
- Add boiling water to the cup, stir, and serve.
Tips
- If you use Dutch (also called Dutch process) cocoa powder, it will dissolve more easily in water. It also results in a better taste and color.
- Some cocoa powders are ground more finely than others. If the cocoa is coarse, it will leave a lot of sludge in the bottom of your mug. More sludge at the bottom means less flavor in your drink.
- Add 1/4 cup instant coffee for a tasty mocha flavor.
- Add salted butter; a special and secret ingredient that highlights the sweetness and flavor of the hot chocolate.
