Steps
Malted Cinnamon Hot Chocolate
- Pour the milk into the mug.
- Heat in the microwave (about 15-30 seconds, depending on your microwave).
- Stir in your desired amount of Ovaltine with the spoon.
- Add 2-6 pinches of cinnamon according to how much of a "bite" you would like.
- Keep stirring until everything is mixed in.
- Top with whipped cream and/or marshmallows.
- Enjoy!
Mexican Cinnamon Hot Chocolate
- Pour the milk into a heavy based saucepan. Add the cinnamon stick. Slowly bring to the boil.
- Add the chocolate. Be liberal with the quantity.
- Use a whisk to beat the milk and chocolate together. Whisk until the chocolate is totally combined through the milk.
- Add sugar to sweeten. This is optional, only if you like it.
- Add vanilla to taste. Again, this is only if you like the flavor. It does add a delicious touch.
- Fish out the cinnamon stick. Pour the hot chocolate into a mug.
- Serve. Top with whipped cream and/or marshmallows if you like. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon for a finishing touch.
- Serve with cookies or scones.
Cinnamon Hot Chocolate Mix
This makes about 20 cups for use over time.
- Place all of the ingredients into a large mixing bowl.
- Whisk together to combine. Be gentle.
- Puree the mixture. Add batches of the mixture at a time to the food processor. Pulse until the entire mix is finely ground.
- Transfer to ground chocolate mix to an airtight container. Store in a cool, dry and dark place.
- The mix will keep for up to 3 months.
- Make hot cinnamon chocolate from the mix. Simply use 1/3 cup of the mix added to 1 cup of hot milk or water in a mug. Add whipped cream for garnish, if desired.
Cinnamon Caramel Hot Chocolate
- Add the cocoa powder, sugar and salt to a heavy based saucepan.
- Pour in the hot water. Stir to combine all the ingredients.
- Bring to the boil. Stir constantly.
- Turn down the heat. Simmer for another 2 minutes.
- Add the milk in small amounts. Stir constantly and keep heating without boiling.
- Pour in the caramel sauce. Stir constantly. Add the cinnamon too.
- Remove from the heat. Pour into 4 mugs.
- Serve. Add whipped cream and/or marshmallows for garnish, if desired.
Tips
- Younger children love this in the wintertime, especially with the whipped cream. As a bonus, since it's cheap and easy you may wish to make it in bulk for a group of children to enjoy.
- In method one, you can use brown sugar cinnamon for a sweeter version of this recipe. You will have to use less because it won't mix in as well as regular cinnamon.
- In the first method, to keep the Ovaltine and cinnamon from sticking to the sides of the mug, rinse off the mug as soon as possible.
Warnings
- Don't add too much cinnamon, it will taste overbearing.
