Make Jeera Rice
Most simple but the tasty rice recipe goes well with all types of Indian curries.

- One cup Basmati rice
- Two tablespoon ghee (clarified butter)
- One teaspoon cumin seeds
- Salt to taste
- Warm water, 2 1/2 cups
Steps
- Wash one cup Basmati Rice and set aside.
- Take a large thick bottomed pan and place on the flame.
- Add 2 tablespoons of Ghee (clarified butter) in the pan.
- Add 1 teaspoon jeera (cumin seeds) in the hot ghee.
- Allow to spatter,reduce the flame taking care not to burn the cumin seeds.
- Add the washed rice in the pan and salt to taste.Mix with cumin seeds.
- Increase the flame and roast the rice for five minutes.
- Add two and half cups of warm water in the rice.
- When the mixture starts boiling,reduce the flame and cover the pan.
- Leave on the reduced flame for about 10 minutes.Remove the lid and mix. Turn off the flame.
- Leave for another 6 to 8 minutes covered with the lid.
- Check the rice grains for soft cook.
- Finished.
Tips
- If like you can add a finely chopped onion to the ghee cumin mixture and fry till brown and then add rice.
- Ghee can be replaced with refined oil but ghee accentuates the flavour of basmati rice.
- A little bit of corn would taste great.
- Adding pepper seeds gives it a sharper taste.
- A little (one teaspoon) sugar can also be added it gives good taste without becoming sweet.
