Make Potato Pancakes

Potato pancakes are a very delicious and perfect for lunch. They have a better, saltier flavor and taste different than other pancakes. Make them yourself, serve them with applesauce and enjoy eating them.

The following is enough to serve four people.

Ingredients

  • 6 potatoes
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • Cooking oil
  • Toppings such as butter, jam, sour cream, maple syrup, plain yogurt, sugar, etc. (optional)

Steps

  1. Prepare the potatoes. Peel the potatoes and shred them into small pieces and put them into a bowl.
  2. Add the egg and the flour into the bowl.
  3. Add the salt and stir. Sprinkle the salt and mix everything together with a large spoon.
  4. Heat the oil. Pour about a tablespoon cooking oil onto a frying pan, turn up the heat to medium, and wait for the cooking oil to heat up.
  5. Start cooking the pancakes. Scoop one spoon of the batter into the frying pan to make a pancake. Keep adding spoons of batter to make as many pancakes as your skillet will hold.
  6. Have the pancakes cook. Wait until the pancakes are golden brown and then flip the pancakes. When the cakes are golden brown on both sides they are ready to be eaten.
  7. Serve. Serve the pancakes by serving them on a plate using a spatula. Add apple sauce, butter, or jam if desired. For a saltier twist try adding sour cream or plain yogurt.

Tips

  • Wrap the shredded raw potatoes in a clean cotton dish towel and wring out as much of the potato "juice" as you can. Then follow the recipe as written. This extra step will improve the appearance and texture of the pancakes and remove a small amount of the carbs.
  • Potato pancakes can go well with bread.
  • A couple these pancakes can be served as an appetizer before a meal.
  • Serve with Applesauce and mustard to make them Chicago style.
  • Continually add more oil onto the frying pan if it gets dry.
  • These pancakes are wonderfully warm so they are perfect to serve on cold, snowy days.
  • You can sprinkle sugar on the pancakes after you fry them to give them extra flavour.

Warnings

  • Do not save the pancakes and serve them the next day. They will taste unpleasant and dry. They must be eaten on the first day made.
  • Watch out for the drops of oil that may spark into the air from the frying pan. It could reach your skin, hair, and eyes and cause burns.
  • The pancakes are hot right after you cook, take caution to avoid getting burnt.
