Make Sweet Onion Marmalade
This easy to make condiment is an excellent tasty choice to compliment chicken breast, pork chops or spread over cream cheese and serve with cheese crackers. Yields 2/3 cups.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 Cups chopped onions
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 Cup Balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 Cup red wine
- 3 Tablespoons raisins
- Salt & coarsely ground black pepper to taste.
Steps
- Heat butter in medium heavy saucepan.
- Add onions and cook for 5 minutes, stirring often.
- Sprinkle with {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of sugar and continue cooking until onions are very soft and browned. Approximately 8 to 10 additional minutes.
- Add vinegar, wine, raisins and simmer until almost of all the liquids have evaporated and the onion mixture is glistening and syrupy.Approximately 5 minutes.
- Finished.
Tips
- Marmalade can be prepared two days ahead of time. Cover and refrigerate.
- If you desire a slightly sweeter taste, use an additional 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons of sugar.
- Bring to room temperature prior to using.
- For a larger amount of marmalade double your ingredients.
