Make Your Hair Stay Straight All Day
Straight hair is quicker and easier to achieve than ever with the advent of affordable straightening irons, but keeping your hair sleek all day long can still be a challenge. You can make your hair stay straight all day by washing and styling with straightening hair care products, but if you prefer the natural route, you can also try tricks like conditioning your hair with milk or almond oil to ward away any uneven frizz. Blow drying and straightening your hair in a way that reduces heat damage also proves effective.

Steps
Basic Treatments
- Purchase shampooing and conditioning products that are specially formulated to create straight or sleek hair. Just about every inexpensive brand of hair washing products has a line of products for encouraging straight hair, including brands like Garnier and Pantene.
- Take the time to comb the conditioner into your hair while in the shower before your rinse it out to get rid of tangles and encourage straightness.
- Avoid harsh rubbing with your towel when drying your hair after a shower. Pat and squeeze your hair dry with your towel rather than ruffling or intensely rubbing your hair dry to prevent frizz from occurring.
- Apply a straightening mousse, gel, relaxing cream, or leave-in conditioner after taking a shower on wet hair. Choose an anti-frizz product containing silicone to help seal in your hair's natural moisture.
Using Home Remedies
- Spray milk in your hair before showering. Fill a spray bottle about 1/3 of the way full with milk. About twenty minutes before showering, spray the milk on your hair, making sure to thoroughly coat each layer of hair.
- Comb your hair before getting in the shower and avoid brushing it directly after showering as doing so causes your hair to break.
- Shampoo and condition your hair as usual while showering.
- Coat your hair in a milk and egg mixture. Combine 1 egg into 2 cups of milk and stir together. Coat your hair in the the mixture and leave it in for 10 minutes.
- After ten minutes, cover with plastic wrap and let it sit for another 30 minutes.
- You can also add a tablespoon of honey to create an even stronger mixture.
- Shampoo and condition your hair thoroughly after the mixture has soaked into your hair for the full 40 minutes.
- Mix almond oil with your conditioner. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of almond oil to your conditioner and shake it vigorously to combine. Let the conditioner sit in your hair for two hours before rinsing the mixture out with water.
- You can also use castor oil or soybean oil instead of almond oil.
- Dry with a hair dryer after all of the conditioner is washed out of your hair.
- Repeat this process once a month.
- Combine lemon juice and coconut milk. Squeeze the juice of one large lemon into a cup of coconut milk and put it in the refrigerator uncovered. A creamy layer should form on the top of the mixture. Coat your hair in the mixture and squeeze out the excess. Wrap your hair in a wet warm towel and let it sit for about 15 minutes.
- Wash your hair normally with shampoo and conditioner and then blow dry hair.
Perfecting Your Blow-Drying and Straightening Techniques
- Point the hair dryer downward away from your roots when blow-drying. This encourages the hair to dry in a straight direction. You can even use brush or comb to guide and hold your hair as you dry.
- Set your hair dryer on the lowest setting. The hotter and stronger the air flowing from the hair dryer, the more likely you are to have frizzy, fly-away hair after you are done drying. Be patient and use the least abrasive settings to achieve smooth hair.
- Apply a pre-straightening or thermal preparation product before using a hair straightener. This not only protects your hair from the heat, but also encourages your hair to adhere to the straightness of the flat iron.
- Straighten your hair using a straightening iron if necessary. Ceramic flat irons are generally the most effective and least damaging to your hair. Take your hair in small chunks and run the straightening iron from the roots to the tips all around your head.
- Blow-dry your hair for another minute using the cold air setting to set your straightened hair. Make sure the air intensity is also on the lowest setting possible and guide your hair with a thick brush, combing on the inside of your hair with the bristles pointing toward the blow-dryer.
- Apply either a hair spray, a post-straightening serum, or a setting spray as a final layer of protection against the elements.
Combating Humidity
- Use an umbrella when going outside for an extended period of time.
- Wear a shower cap or hair wrap of some sort if you plan to take a shower without washing your hair. Doing so helps keep hair dry and prevents moisture from causing your hair to frizz.
- Try several types of oil on the ends of your hair to see what works best for you. Coconut oil and Moroccan oil are two commonly used oils that can be found at most beauty supply stores. Olive oil and mineral oil can also be used.
- Use only a small, dime-sized dollop of oil to avoid making your hair look greasy.
- Only apply from the ends of your hair to about halfway up the shaft of your hair for long hair. Avoid putting any oil on the roots of your hair.
- Finished.
Warnings
- Brushing your hair when wet can cause split ends and damage your hair.
- Don't hold the straightener on your hair in one spot. Keep it moving in a downward motion from your roots to your ends to avoid breakage.
- Washing your hair every day can cause it to dry out. Try to wash your hair every other day if possible.
Tips
- Make sure your hair is dry before attempting to straighten it to avoid damage.
- Avoid the urge of continuously touching your hair.
- Be sure you always have an elastic and some bobby pins handy in case you hair does get frizzy!
Even if you straighten it, and it doesn't stay straight, try hairspray. Or even gel. Don't be afraid to use both at the same time.
- If your hair starts to frizz unexpectedly in the middle of day and all you have handy is body lotion, you can use a small amount to tame fly-aways.
- If your generally looking for a way for your hair to stay straight throughout the day without straightening it try spraying hair spray onto a hairbrush and combing it through. This will apply it evenly and hold your hair.
- When straightening hair, use a heat protection product to lessen the damage done to your hair.
- Don't continually brush your hair;-Use a smoothing comb.
- Use a light amount of strong-holding hairspray to keep hair in place.
- Read the instructions on each product label to ensure you are correctly using the product.
- When you straighten your hair, tilt the flat iron to give more of a natural, glowing look!!!
- Use ecologically friendly products not tested on animals whenever possible.
- Use heat tools sparingly as they make your hair dry and brittle.
- Make you hair really wavy or curly after a shower by putting it in a bun and sleep with it on. The next morning your hair will be thicker when you straighten it and stay straight longer if you have really thin hair.
- if you don't have an anti-frizz spray, you can use a leave-in conditioner or regular conditioner in the ends of your hair.
- Separate your hair when using a flat iron. If you have fine hair, separate it into 2-3 sections; if your hair is thicker, separate it into 3-4 sections. Use a wide toothed comb if you have to brush your hair during the day.
