Straighten Wavy, Difficult Hair

Some people's hair is naturally straight, while others have to work on it a bit more. This article will tell you how to get perfectly straight hair, even if your hair is naturally wavy, frizzy, curly, or just plain difficult.

Steps

  1. Apply heat protection spray on dry hair. This will prevent your hair from becoming fried and make it soft and smooth when it's straightened. There's no need to apply it around your scalp, but make sure it's sprayed throughout the rest of your hair, especially on your ends.
  2. Let your hair dry for 5 - 10 minutes. Trying to straighten hair when it's still wet from the heat protection spray will only cause it to fry and become frizzy.
  3. Brush your hair well, getting out any tangles.
  4. Slide your fingers above your ears and put all of the hair on top into a clip on the top of your head. This should leave your bottom layer of hair down, ready to be straightened.
  5. Divide the layer into 2 even sections, and put one on the right side of your head and one on the left.
  6. Begin straightening one section. Straighten small pieces, about one inch in thickness. Move the straightener slowly down the shaft of hair, making sure the straightener is not on an angle.
  7. Take your time and don't move on to the next piece of hair until the one you're straightening is perfectly straight. Don't move on to the next section until your first section is done well. This might take some time, but just keep doing small pieces of hair and keep your flat iron straight, not on an angle. This is a common mistake a lot of people make. Keep the flat iron straight, not angled.
  8. Take a new layer of hair down from the clip. Divide your hair into 2 sections again. Straighten one section at a time.
  9. Continue taking layers of hair down and dividing them, straightening them one piece at a time.
  10. Pay extra attention to the top layer of your hair, the last one you take down. This layer should be perfect, because it's the first one you see. But if your other layers aren't straightened, your hair won't look sleek or smooth, and it will soon start to wave or flip outwards.
  11. Finish with a light spray of flexible-hold hairspray.
