Make Your Own Cuticle Oil
This inexpensive natural cuticle oil will keep your nail beds & cuticles deeply moisturised. It is quick & easy to make & for 100ml only costs about $2.50. The top retail cuticle oils contain the same basic ingredients & cost about $15 for around 8ml!
Steps
- Find a workbench somewhere easy to clean such as the kitchen or bathroom in case you spill something.
- Put a funnel into the top of your old medicine bottle & carefully pour equal parts of almond oil, jojoba oil & rice bran oil into the bottle.
- Add about 5 drops of your selected essential oil.
- Replace lid & keep in a cool dark place.
- To use, just apply a very small amount to each cuticle (often just rubbing the end of the dropper over your cuticle is enough) & work into the cuticle, nail & surrounding skin.
- This can be done as often as you like, but try to do it at least once a day.
Tips
- Make sure your old medicine bottle is really clean - you don't want ear medicine on your fingers.
- Regular use will promote nail growth and strength and will stop all that nasty peeling on your fingers.
- For cuticle cream, add a few drops of the oil to your favorite hand and nail lotion.
- All of these oils are usually available at some supermarkets, chemists, health food stores & online.
- Try using this oil on your rough elbows too!
- This mix is by no means an exact formula, if you don't measure exactly equal parts that's fine.
- You can leave out the essential oil if you like, it's really just to make it smell nice.
- For 100 mL use about 33 mL of each oil.
- Vitamin E capsules can be broken, and used. It has the same effect as the Vitamin E oil.
- Try mixing up different oils for different effects. For example, olive oil can be used as a main part in your nail mixture.
Warnings
- Test a small amount on the back of your hand to see if you are allergic to it. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.
- Don't leave in sunlight as the light will kill many of these oil's natural properties.
