Make Your Own Diaper Cream

Here are basic instructions on how to make your own diaper salve which is very non-allergenic. With a couple of extra ingredients, it's the ideal preventative and treatment for a yeast-rash. Sometimes this stuff is affectionately called "butt grease" since it keeps diaper areas healthy and running well!

Ingredients

Regular Cream

  • Coconut oil
  • Vitamin E oil (optional)

Medicated Cream

  • 1 part Lotrimin
  • 1 part polysporin
  • 1 part hydrocortisone cream

Steps

Regular Cream

  1. Whip the coconut oil. You can place it in a food processor or hand-held mixer. Keep going until the consistency is light and fluffy.
  2. Add vitamin E oil (optional). Some studies suggest that vitamin E oil softens and soothes skin. If you're concerned that your baby's skin is irritated, mix a small amount into the coconut oil whip.

Medicated Cream

  1. Combine Lotrimin, polysporin and hydrocortisone cream in a bowl or jar.
  2. Mix together until the consistency is even.
  3. Add whipped coconut oil (optional). If you want the cream to be fluffier and less concentrated, you can add whipped coconut oil. See the steps above on how to mix it.

Tips

  • If you baby has extreme diaper rash add a little liquid Maalox (or other antacid) to neutralize urine.

Warnings

  • Don't use talc or corn starch in diaper cream.
  • Don't use tea tree oil or other astringents in diaper cream. These can irritate sensitive skin.

Things You'll Need

  • Food processor or handheld mixer
  • Bowl
  • Sealable jar to hold the cream
