Make a Cardboard Ship

A small ship is great and it is very realistic. Why not make one and impress your friends. We will be making a Spanish sail ship.Problem is it has a lot of steps but is is very easy if you have the materials.

Steps

  1. Draw the shape of a boat - as if you were looking at it from above - onto a piece of cardboard box card. Cut the shape out.
  2. Use this as a template to draw around onto some more cardboard box card. Cut this shape out too - you should now have two.
  3. Cut off the pointed end of one of these cardboard pieces and the other end, too.
  4. Take a piece of small card.
  5. Glue the full boat shape onto the card base.
  6. Glue the pointy bit you cut off onto that.
  7. Get three cocktail sticks to make the ship's masts.
  8. Carefully snip off the top third of the cocktail sticks, so that they're all about the same length.
  9. Punch one of the cocktail sticks into the middle of the boat. Don't punch it all the way through - just enough so that it stands up on its own.
  10. Do the same again, with one behind the raised part at the front, and one in front of the raised part at the back.
  11. Take two of the smaller pieces of cocktail stick and stick one into the front of the ship at an angle, and one at the back.
  12. Mix up some PVA glue with water and use it to paste on small pieces of tissue paper.
  13. Just seal around all the joins, to give the ship a good texture.
  14. When the glue and tissue paper has dried, you can paint the ship!
  15. For sails, cut out some triangular shapes from white paper. You need five in all.
  16. Stick one sail to each of the three cocktail sticks in the middle of the ship, and the final two to the small cocktail stick at the back of the ship.
  17. Finish off with a small flag on the cocktail stick at the front and and if you put a tiny dab of glue on the top of each mast, you can add on some thread for rigging!
  18. When the glue has dried, trim off the excess...
    • ...and you have made your own sail ship!

Tips

  • Without the sail but continuing stacking it, you can have a cruise liner!
