Steps
Dialog
- Write a script A flash cartoon has one thing that distinguishes it from a flash animation: Dialog. Typically a Flash cartoon is funny, but you can make it however you want.
- Proofread Make sure you didn't make any spelling errors and add in little bits of dialog. When you are done proofreading you are ready to begin recording.
Recording
- Place your mouth next to the microphone with your cheek facing it as shown in the picture.
- Say your lines.
- Save the audio as an Mp3 or Wav and repeat until you have said all your lines.
Import
- After completing the previous steps, go to File > Import to Library and import each one. We will come back to these later.
Animation
Tools
- Decide what you want your characters to look like. When you get them decided use these tools to draw them up on flash:
- Pen tool: Use this to make curved lines out of straight lines
- Pencil tool: Use this to make curved and straight lines
- Circle and Square tool
- Brush
- Selection tools
- Fill tool
- After making your characters, add lighting and shading to make them look better. Remember, it takes time. Nobody will like a cartoon that just looks thrown together. Add details, rounded edges, glares, shadows, gradients, and things like that.
Add Mouths
- Add a layer for sound.
- Open the library and find the sound you want to put in.
- Now put it on the sound layer.
- If you are on MX (Flash 6) or below, drag the sound directly into the visual area.
- If you are on MX 2004 (Flash 7) or over, drag the sound directly into the keyframe.
- Draw a mouth on the character speaking and synchronize it to the sound.
- Tip: Create many different layers and put individual character parts on them. The more layers, the more high-quality it will look. Use motion tweens often.
Publish
- Go to File > Publish.
- If you are planning on uploading the file, upload the swf.
- By default, Flash publishes it as an HTML and an swf.
- Save your work.
Tips
- Start out with a short cartoon at first for practice. As you get better and better, make your cartoons longer and longer.

- Keep trying.
