Make a Mannequin out of a Pillow

Have you ever wanted a customized mannequin? This guide will show you how to make your own mannequin out of a pillow. All you need is a little time a pillow with a lot of stuffing, a pole to support your mannequin, safety pins to adjust your size, and a pillowcase.

Steps

Taking the Measurements

  1. Take your measurements with the measuring tape. Measure your chest, waist, and hips. Write these numbers down.

Adjusting the Pillow to a Mannequin Shape

  1. Use the pillow as the body of the mannequin.
    • Mark the spots on the pillow with a pencil where your chest, waist and hips are, according to the measurements you've just taken.
  2. Gather some of the leftover material on the pillow to adjust the pillow to the size and shape of your body, and pin it tightly into the shape of your measurements––take it slowly and do this with care, so as not to stab yourself with the pins. This may be challenging to get through, but it is worth the patient effort required. The end result should be shaped a little like a human torso.
  3. Once the pillow is adjusted, measure all three areas with the measuring tape. This is to check that you've pinned the pillow in accurately. If the measurements don't match your initial ones, then keep adjusting with the safety pins. If it matches, move on.

Creating the Mannequin

  1. Put the pillowcase onto the pillow. Safety pin it to be the shape the pillow was. Then, insert the pole behind the pillow and there should be a bump sticking out of the top of the pillow; this is now the neck.
  2. Safety pin the bottom to keep the pole from falling out. Set up the mannequin onto a wall or corner and its ready to use!
  3. Finished.
