Make a Michael Jackson Costume

Feel like dressing up as a musical icon this Halloween? This article will show you how to put together a Appreciate Michael Jackson costume. Moonwalking is optional.

Steps

  1. Go shopping. Consult the "Things You'll Need" list below.
  2. Cut out a 12 by 5 inch swatch from the loose white cloth.
  3. Stitch the fabric together on one end, creating a loop.
    • This will go over the suit on your arm.
  4. Mark the shirt with chalk to determine what parts of the shirt (sleeves, shoulder) you want to stitch the belts to.
    • This 90s photo of Michael Jackson is the inspiration for the design. Michael wore belts & straps around his arms to represent his sympathy for the dying children in the world.
  5. Sew the belts onto the shirt. Unless you use a commercial machine, it will be best to use some leather needles.
    • Cut off the excess belt once they're attached to the shirt. Drill holes in the belt with a drill gun or a hole puncher designed for leather so you can fasten the belts.
  6. Apply glitter trim to the sides of the pants using fabric glue.
    • Create the classic high-water look by folding up the base of the pant legs and hemming them. Be sure to fold them inside.
  7. Create "the glove" using a white T-shirt and some glitter, or a white sequin scarf if you can find one. (Some home improvement stores carry white cotton gloves for a few dollars.)
    • Double the cloth over and trace your hand using some chalk, leaving {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} seam allowance. Pin both sides together and straight stitch the cloth together.
    • Cut out the cloth around the stitches and flip the glove inside out.
  8. Finished.
