Make a Photo Look Like iPod Ads

Steps
Getting your Photo
- If you took your photo using a digital camera, simply connect it to the computer and download the photo of your choice to your destination folder.
- If your photograph is on a non-digital camera, you will need to get it developed and then scanned into your computer using a scanner.
Editing your Photo
- Open your favorite photo-editing program.
- Open your photo in the program.
- Use the select tool to carefully select the body and clothes of the person. Remember you must not select anything in their hands.
- Use the Paint Bucket/Brush tool to colour the selection black.
- Use the select tools to select anything the person has in his or her hands.
- Colour the objects white.
- Repeat these processes if necessary.
- Select the entire person, including hands and anything they hold using the Lasso/Select tools.
- Inverse the selection.
- Choose a light colour and fill the background with it.
- Select the paintbrush tool and paint the small uncoloured areas. Use the zoom if needed.
- If you want you can add some text with the colour white selected. The best font to use is Myriad Pro. Apple uses a custom font, but it is extremely similar to Myriad.
Tips
- This How To should be used for full-size body photos. For face close-ups, colour white the mouth, eyes, hair, etc.
- Don't rush with the Lasso tools.
- If you are using Adobe Photoshop, you should create a new layer each time you put on a new colour. This will help you go back to previous versions of the image.
- The background doesn't need to be filled with a single colour. In fact, it looks much better with more colours, but using a single one will make it look much more like an iPod's ad.
- Long and/or messy hair is very difficult to recreate so try avoiding it.
