Make a Star on a Beaded Necklace

Remember those Mardi Gras style plastic bead necklaces you got at parties? This tutorial will explain how to make stars with them, and who knows? You might like them enough to wear them daily! At the very least, you might use them as Christmas tree ornaments. This can also be done with bead garland.

Steps

  1. Find your necklaces. Use only those with even sized beads (varied sizes on one strand don't work for this).
  2. Put the necklace on before you begin this process, because the star makes the necklace too short to put on or take off. (You'll need to cut it off or take apart the star later.) If you're not going to use the star as a necklace, skip this step.
  3. Start your star at the end opposite the end where there are two beads melted together.
  4. Take a section of four or five beads
  5. Twist them into one section. This is one leg of the star.
  6. Make 4 sections total. Then pull the two remaining strands together so they complete the star.
  7. Twist them together, and then go two beads down each strand.
  8. Twist again, so that there's one more section of four beads. Your necklace is done.
  9. Layer with others of different colors for different seasons, or wear to a sporting event. In any case, your necklaces will be the star of the party!

Tips

  • Watch out for the melted together beads, for they can make this project harder than necessary.
  • If you can't figure out why your necklace doesn't look like a star, you put the sections on a single strand, not both strands.
  • Remember to put your necklace on first! It does you no good if you cannot put your necklace on later!

Things You'll Need

  • Bead necklace(s). Remember, they have to be the ordinary plastic ones with even-sized beads.
