Make a Windsock for Children
Children love to create and use their imaginations. Here is a project that any kid, and any kid at heart would love.
Steps
- Choose the color construction paper, and tissue paper that you want.
- Allow children to draw, color, and add stickers to their sheet of paper.
- Roll the paper up, end to end, then tape, glue, or staple them together.
- Cut tissue paper in long strips, and glue around the bottom inside of the windsock.
- Punch two holes in the top of the windsock, directly across from each other.
- Feed yarn, wire or string through the punched holes, and tie a knot at the end.
- Hang and enjoy!
Alternate Method
- Use a cleaned out can (soup, vegetables, or coffee can).Using a bottle opener, make two holes in top of can. The holes should be directly across from each other.
- Paint it in your desired colors, using acrylic paint. Then paint a coat of varnish over the painted areas of the can.
- Let completely dry.
- Cut long strips from a plastic grocery bag, then adhere to bottom inside of can, using a strong glue.
- Thread wire, yarn, or rope through the holes, then hang in your yard, or a child's bedroom.
Tips
- Be creative. There are many items to use to decorate the windsocks. Stickers, hole punches in different shapes, beads, gems, paint, markers, newspaper, it's endless!
- If making the paper version, be aware that it won't hold up in rainy weather.
- You can use acrylic paints on the can, and an inexpensive varnish, like the one that Delta has.(Found at craft stores, and Walmart)
Warnings
- Lay newspaper down on your work surface, prior to starting your project.
- Wear gloves while painting, varnishing, and gluing.
- Adult supervision is needed for these projects, as scissors and a bottle opener needs to be used.
