Make an Origami Pocket Heart
This origami heart fits in your pocket, and has its own pocket inside! You can insert something into it or leave a little note in it, or even a little trinket (perhaps a piece of candy or jewelry), to give to someone you care about. You could even draw on the heart, perhaps a person's name or face - it's all up to you!
Steps
- Start with a square piece of paper. You could choose a shade of red or pink, but any color will work. You can buy origami paper at a store or online. Or, you can get a regular 8 inch by 11 inch (20cm x 28cm) sheet of paper cut into a square.
- Fold the square in half diagonally both ways, and along the center. Unfold.
- Fold two of the opposite corners to the center of the paper. The horizontal and vertical folds can help guide you through this process. The two unfolded corners should be facing "up" and "down."
- Fold the square in half horizontally so that you get a "house" shape.
- Find the left diagonal crease, and fold that bottom left corner so that crease lines up with the middle crease.
- Fold the left half back, taking the triangle flap with it.
- Let go of the front triangle and let it open to the left.
- Pull the top corner straight down to the bottom center. The top will adjust itself as you pull it. Push the flap that forms toward the left and crease it down.
- Fold the extending flaps at the left and right to the edges of the formed "V" shape.
- Fold the top tips down a little bit, add more creases for a rounder edge.
- Flip the form over. The origami heart pocket is now ready for use.
Tips
- The sharper the crease, the more attractive the heart will look. This applies to any origami model you make.
- This makes a great Valentine note.
- Use tape to hold the back folds down to help the heart hold its shape, or fold the flaps a little past the diagonal line, get a nice crease, then tuck the flaps you just folded under the existing flaps to hold them in.
- A pocket will be formed in the middle, so tuck something in—a note, a piece of candy, anything you prefer!
- Sticky notes (Post-Its) come in a variety of beautiful colors. Try using them as well.
- Use shades of red and pink for making a traditional heart, but any color can be used.
- Cut out same shape in the same color of paper and tape it in the back so it will hold its shape.
Warnings
- Sticky notes are usually harder to work with than ordinary paper/origami paper because some are sticky and some are not.
- You could also use glue to stick the back parts but it is not recommended.
- Be careful when cutting with scissors. So avoid using them.
