Make a Valentine's Day Box

Would you like to make a special gift for your Valentine? Make your own box and put gifts or notes in it. You'll express your love and your own style much better than anything you could purchase, and you'll probably spend less money.

Steps

  1. Find a plain box to use as the base. It could be a shoebox or any other small box of an appropriate shape and size.
  2. Decorate it. Use your imagination and express yourself.
    • Cover it with plain, colored, or decorative paper.
    • Paste paper hearts, straw hearts, origami hearts on it.
    • Add ribbon, Use Vintage Lace, flowers, or other decorations.
    • Do you have leftover cards from last year? Cut out and reuse parts of the design you like.
    • Don't forget words and pictures. Write, stamp, or draw on the box.
  3. Start adding gifts to the box. Add a variety of small things so that it will be fun exploring everything inside.
    • Write a love letter and tuck it in.
    • Add your Valentine's favorite candies or chocolates.
    • Include photos of both of you together. Put them in small frames if it's appropriate.
    • Try a friendship bracelet or other small token of your relationship.

Tips

  • Use your own creativity to decide what to put in, too. If you're great with woodcarving, crochet, scrapbooking, photography, cooking, or anything else, you can put in something that your Valentine would never get in a store-bought gift.
  • For a different spin on the box, create a time capsule of your love. Fill the box now and present it to your Valentine in one year, or many. It will be a trip down memory lane for both of you. If you mean for this Valentine to be sealed for a year or more, though, don't include perishable items such as food.
  • Consider your Valentine's favorites and the status of your relationship. You know more about him or her than anyone, so include their favorite things.
