Tips

  • Try to recite everything you memorized before you go to sleep as well.
  • Time: The best time to memorize the Quran is after Fajr because your mind is clear and you have no worries to think about.
  • Practice the ayahs you have memorized in your Fard prayers and Sunnah prayers.
  • Start today because your intention will not be any stronger a month from now.
  • Above all don't give up. Memorizing can seem tough at times, but it is not. Shaitan [Satan] is telling you this. Don't listen to him. Allah himself said in the Quran "We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there any one who will mind?"[2]
  • This will stop Shaitan, the outcast, and will allow you to keep on memorizing.
  • Location: The greatest place to memorize the Quran is at the masjid, but if that is not possible then memorize in a quiet place with a minimum amount of distractions.
  • "I seek refuge with Allah, from the accursed shaitan"
  • Always recite the ayahs you have memorized after the Fard prayers as well.
  • Start slow to avoid discouragement.
  • Length: It should take you 30 minutes to memorize the ayahs you want to memorize. Beginners should start by memorizing 5 ayahs per day. (3 ayahs if you start from Surat Al Baqarah)
  • Another trick is to download the ayahs you have memorized and play it in your computer music player (Real-Player, Windows Media Player, Movies & TV for Windows 10, etc.) on continuous mode. That way the ayahs will become ingrained in your subconscious mind.
  • Make du'aa to Allah to help you inshAllah - he will answer your du'aa.
  • Revise the surah very often
  • Stop searching Google on how to memorize the Quran and just start memorizing.
  • What you should first do is read it. Then read it again. After you read it a few times, memorize each line. After you memorize a line, move on to another. Then put the memorized lines together. Keep repeating this and you'll soon be reading the Ayahs from the Quran better than the Iman himself!
  • You can download separate ayahs from this website: http://corpus.quran.com/translation.jsp.
  • Try to memorize only about 4-5 ayat a day. Too many ayat may overwhelm you. Also, pick a quiet place. Memorize for about 1 hour and then take about 30 minutes to review.
  • Start with shorter Surahs like from the 30th Sipara. They are easier to memorize.
  • Read with tajweed (special pronunciation).
  • Don't worry if you are not good at reading the Qur'an, it is your intentions that matter.
  • The Quran is a guidebook of life for Muslims, explaining how to conduct your daily life. Understand the meaning of it and look at the translation.
  • Go to Qur'an class to get help.
  • Keep on reciting an ayah while looking at the Quran until you memorize it.
  • Always start memorizing in the morning and take a break then read more and just repeat this cycle.

Warnings

  • Make memorization a routine not a once in a while event.
  • Always have a water bottle near you to avoid moving away from the Quran.
  • Stay away from sin and perform sincere repentance for your past sins.
  • Stay concentrated by saying أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم (a'otho' billahi' min al-shaytan al-rajeem) before starting to read. This protects you from Satan.
