Not Be Shy at School

Are you quiet at school, or afraid to speak up? You might have wanted to become more outgoing or more involved. Read on to find out how to become more extroverted.

Steps

  1. Open up and be yourself. You don't have to shout out, find some time with someone and talk to them for awhile. Remember that it makes no difference what people think of you. Stop worrying.
  2. Try answering questions in class. This could help you feel more comfortable and brave and get used to public speaking. Pipe up more when you are around your friends. And if you're nervous about people thinking you're dumb for answering a question, the likelihood is that they have the same question.
  3. Attempt to be outgoing. Walk up to someone and say, "Hey, what's up?" and then talk about how boring class might be, and things like that. Nobody will think anything of it.
  4. Smile. Looking approachable and friendly make people feel inclined to walk up and say hello. Using this theory, make yourself look the best you can - it will improve your confidence.
  5. Take part in conversations. If no one is talking about anything of interest, try to start a new conversation. Easy topics can be widely-hated teachers, asking about homework, or talking about how stressful you've been.
  6. Be humorous. It's always good to have a sense of humor. You can make new friends quickly by being funny. Like above, you can make jokes about a teacher, a project considered dumb, etc.

Tips

  • If you fail, get up and try again.
  • Being introverted is fine too. Maybe being shy is a part of who you are. Don't feel guilty about not being outgoing.
  • A trick is to drop something in front of someone, and see if anyone comes over to help. If they do, say thank you and ask if you can chat later. However, some people might bully you because they are shy too and don't know how to talk.
  • Try doing a little project in front of your class. It really helps building up confident and skills!
  • Sometimes just coming up with something to say is really hard, so smiling is a good way to stay engaged if you have absolutely nothing to respond with.

Warnings

  • Don't be too outgoing. Some will be turned off by someone who is too hyper and never stops talking.
