Pack for an Overnight Trip

We all love to travel! If you're ever stuck on what to pack for a super-short trip, this is the article for you.

Steps

  1. Make sure that you have all of the plans finalized in a week advance at least. This includes means of transportation, entertainment for long car or plane rides, hotel room reservations, etc. Short trips are the ones during which it is most likely for someone to forget details.
  2. Decide which luggage to take. A small rolling duffel should definitely suffice, and if at all possible, a small backpack is ideal. The basic rule of thumb is that smaller is better. This also holds true with other items, be it toiletries, clothing (a jack and tee is better than bringing a sweater, tee, tank, jacket and blouse)
  3. The weekend before you go, make a list of exactly what you need and what you're going to pack everything in. Make sure it's only what you really need (you will not need 7 suitcases for a night or two) and be sure that you have everything on the list.
  4. When packing, put the heaviest items closest to the source of support(if rolling, wheels, if a backpack, your back, etc.) Put all the items in, folded, packed, etc.
  5. Make sure you have money!

Tips

  • Don't forget to pack any medications.
  • When going on a trip always check the weather because you don't want to be stuck with a tank top in 20 degree weather.
  • If you're not staying in a hotel, it's best to bring towels, shampoo, sheets, conditioner and soap. Some places don't offer the amenities a hotel does.
  • Go for the smallest luggage possible.
  • If you do something weekly as a part of your routine, do them beforehand so you aren't scrambling to do them while away from home.
  • Instead of bringing many different cosmetics, try to find multi-tasking items and try to limit yourself to 4 or 5 items.
  • Have a list of the things you need and check off what you have put in your bag.

Things You'll Need

  • Pajamas
  • Outfit- one per day (and all undergarments, shoes and accessories)
  • Container
  • All personal items (deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, feminine hygiene products, etc.)
  • Flip Flops or Shower Shoes if staying in a hotel
  • A bathing suit (if you know or think you will be in the water)
  • Things to entertain yourself with (phone, mp3, cards, toys, books etc), in case it rains or you get stuck in the car for awhile.
