Paint a Computer Case

Has dust gathered on your computer case over time? This is a very common problem. Computer cases require frequent paints to retain their 'newness'. This article will teach you how to paint your computer case (inside and outside), as well as how to disassemble/reassemble the case.

Steps

1. Open the side of your case. Remove all hard drive and CD/DVD ROM drive cables. Remove the necessary screws and remove the drives.
2. Remove all expansion cards (PCI/AGP/PCI Express/etc), then remove your power cable from your motherboard.
3. Remove all screws from the motherboard and remove it from the case.
4. Remove the power supply. Usually all the screws for it are on the back of the case. Sometimes, there are two on the inside of the case.
5. Remove stickers, Velcro, etc. If possible also use sanding paper. This way the paint will adhere better.
6. Wipe down the case with a paper towel with rubbing alcohol on it.
7. After alcohol dries, spray an even coat over the entire case from {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} away. A second coat may be applied along with a clear coat.
8. Reassemble computer.

Tips

• Do not use cheap paint. Good quality paint will result in a longer lasting effect
• Wearing gloves during the cleaning process will give you a better finish.
• Ground yourself to make sure you don't damage your hardware. Lots of the stuff in your computer is at least mildly ESD (electrostatic discharge) sensitive.
• Do any case mods before you paint.
• For a better effect, apply several thin layers of paint
• For a shiny effect; perform a final sanding and polish it.
• Do this on a calm, non-windy day. Avoid humid or wet weather.
• Make sure that you remove all the dust from within the case with water or an air hose.

Warnings

• Paint in a well-ventilated area.
• If you feel dizzy, stop and get fresh air.
• Make sure the computer is unplugged!
• Remember that painting your computer case will most likely void warranty.
